Al Ahly’s rollercoaster come-from-behind win over Arab Contractors has left their coach Pitso Mosimane a very angry man.
After going down 2-0 in the first half of the Egyptian Premier League encounter, some technical changes by Mosimane and his technical team saw the Red Eagles mount a second-half comeback to register a 3-2 victory.
After the match, Mosimane opened up on his frustrating evening and revealed why he was angry at Al Ahly players for the first time since taking over back in October 2020.
“Since my arrival in Egypt, I have not gotten angry at the players as much as today. I always try to be calm, but today we were not good,” he told the media in a post-match press conference.
“But the positive part is the spirit of the players and the fight and always having faith in our ability to win."
“I must also praise the technical staff because we made some strange decisions that changed the way we play. We took different decisions, but they had positive consequences,” he added.
Pressure has been mounting on the 56-year-old who has come under criticism from Al Ahly legends and fans alike, who have questioned Mosimane’s tactics and his team selections.
By his own admission, it appears there are problems in the Ahly dressing room which needs to be addressed.
“I think we like to play under pressure. Today we were able to come back in the result and win, and this is dangerous because it may not happen next time.
“I don’t think the two halves of the match were different because we were able to create chances in both of them. This means that there is a problem and we must address it.
“In the first half, we created a lot of opportunities in the first 10-15 minutes, and we should have taken advantage of them. This also happened in the Bank Al Ahly game,” Mosimane added.
Mosimane’s Al Ahly team currently sit in first position on the Egyptian Premier League standings, just one point ahead of arch-rivals Zamalek, who have a game in hand.
