Pitso Mosimane says he is happy to work under a president who understands football as he gave a glittering account of his relationship with Al Ahly president Mahmoud ‘Bibo’ El Khatib.
It was El Khatib who head hunted Mosimane almost eight months ago, luring him to Cairo despite the treble-winning coach having penned a long-term deal with Mamelodi Sundowns, in the hopes of ending his side’s seven-year CAF Champions League drought.
The gamble soon paid off as Mosimane led the Red Eagles to the title only a month after being appointed in the hot seat - and looks on course to deliver a second, with just Kaizer Chiefs standing in his way.
In an exclusive interview with Al Ahly’s website, Mosimane opened up about his relationship with the Al Ahly head honcho.
“I always have meetings with the president, Mahmoud El Khatib, short meetings but very good ones. He asks the right questions to find the direction. He always asks where the team is going, what I think, and what I need. I do not have a complaint and I am happy here,” he told the club’s media department.
“He is a legend. You can see wherever we go how everybody respects him. You can also see the footage of him when he was playing. He is a man of honor, great respect for him. He is a man of few words, but very good words. I am happy to have somebody who played football and understands football. It is very important because he understands how the game goes. I am in a fortunate position, where I have a president who has played football and understands my challenges. He is very intelligent and that helps me,” he added.
