Legendary Al Ahly coach Pitso Mosimane has given the strongest hint ever that he would be interested in bringing Percy Tau to Cairo, but only if the player was willing to come to Africa and the reigning African champions are also able to meet his personal demands.
Tau had a great game for Brighton during a friendly match against Luton Town last week where after receiving pass from Florin Ande, he engaged in a mazy run before skinning Gabe Osho then neatly slotted in the third goal which was his maiden goal for Brighton.
Although Brighton’s gaffer Graham Potter highly praised Tau with the manner in which he took his goal, the fact that he is on the market for two additional strikers has raised doubt about whether Tau would get game time in the new season.
“I was disappointed with their goal, which was from an error, and that made the start of the second half a little bit more competitive. It is something we just have to accept and learn from, but in the end, our response was good and it was nice for Percy to score the third,” Potter MyAlbion TV.
But reports emerged on Monday that Potter is pursuing Benfica’s £35-millon (R700m) rated Uruguayan striker Darwin Nunez as well as Glasgow Celtic’s £21-m (R420m) rated French striker, Odsonne Edouard .
And if the club was to land the strikers, it would see Tau move further down the pecking order.
Following the news it emerged that Tau could be leaving the English side and that Mosimane is interested in adding Tau to his playing roster and was planning an audacious deal to bring the Bafana Bafana star striker to Egypt.
Speaking from Egypt, Mosimane would not confirm or deny any interest, though indicated that he would welcome a reunion if financially viable.
“I have a very good relationship with Percy,” admitted Mosimane from Cairo when approached for comment.
“And if he is available, why not? And also, does he want to come back to Africa?
“Can we afford the transfer fee Brighton would demand for him? And also, would we satisfy his personal terms?
“If all those boxes can be ticked, then I will have a huge interest on this ONE,” concluded Mosimane.
This week, Leeds United legend Lucas Radebe urged Tau to stick it out at Brighton and fight for a starting berth.
Brighton round up their preparation for the new season with yet another friendly game against Spanish side Getafe at home on Saturday and open their Premiership campaign away against Burnley on August 14. Watch this space!
