Al Ahly head coach Pitso Mosimane says it was his side’s experience in the CAF Champions League that saw them progress to the semi-final of the competition.
It was by no means a landslide victory, but it was effective as Mosimane’s Red Eagles reached their third consecutive continental semi-final, while it was the coach’s fifth overall foray into the competition’s last four.
It was this experience that helped Al Ahly edge Raja Casablanca as they managed to hold out for a 1-1 draw in Morocco to claim a 3-2 aggregate win, having beaten their opponents 2-1 in Egypt.

After their win, Mosimane lauded his side’s experience, although having missed two penalties across the two matches was a bitter pill to swallow for the 57-year-old.
“We have proven today that we know how to play the CAF Champions League matches. We wasted a penalty in Cairo and another in Casablanca, so there is no question about our abilities. Until the last minute, we were the best and close to winning if it weren’t for Mohamed Sherif’s wasted chance,” he told journalists.
“We need to improve the finishing touch, yet we are confident in our ability to go forward. It was a tough game. We respected Raja very much, and we were the best throughout the two games,” he said.
With the win, Mosimane’s side set up a semi-final clash with ES Setif, who managed to beat Esperance 1-0 on aggregate. Meanwhile the other semi-final fixture will be contested between Petro De Luanda and Wydad Casablanca.
