Phakamani Mahlambi became the first South African to score in the Egyptian Premier League last night as he helped Al Ahly to a 3-0 win against El Mokawloon.
The 20-year-old got handed a starting berth on Thursday evening as the Egyptian giants went 12 points clear at the top of the table, and repaid the faith shown in him by scoring the opener and assisting the second goal.
Mahlambi was playing his eighth league game of the season for Ahly after Hossam El Badry called upon him to start on the right wing, following up his goal in a friendly last week by making history for Mzansi in Egypt’s top-flight.
The Bafana Bafana international will now be eager to try and keep his place in the starting XI going forward, with his game-time this season having been relatively restricted up until this point.
Ahly face Mokawloon again on Monday night as they look to make it 10 wins in a row.
