Mahlambi Fined After Going AWOL

Phakamani Mahlambi Has Been Fined By Al Ahly

By Soccer Laduma - Aug 03, 2018 03:55 PM
Phakamani Mahlambi appears to be in hot water in Egypt, with Al Ahly confirming that he has been fined for missing training without permission.

The young Bafana Bafana international was linked with a move to Mamelodi Sundowns recently as Pitso Mosimane looked to sign him on a permanent basis, however Ahly called the deal off when Junior Ajayi’s long-term injury saw the 20-year-old registered for the season.

It had seemed that the attacker would get the chance to make his mark and break into Patrice Carteron’s starting XI, however he was missing from their squad for the opening game of the season and it has now been revealed that he went AWOL from training.

They said on their official website, “There was a financial penalty imposed on South African Phakamani Mahlambi "Paka"; the player for his absence from training without permission.

“The financial sanction signed by the player came in accordance with the rules of the internal team.”

The statement from the club also explained that ‘there is a meeting with the player's agent to discuss his position for the coming period’, suggesting that he could well be on his way out of the club after all.

Mahlambi played 12 league games for Ahly in his debut season in Egypt, scoring one goal and getting five assists as they went on to win the Egyptian Premier League.

We need to teach our young players the following principle: Once you make a commitment you stick to it, especially when flying our flag elsewhere on the continent or overseas. Any problem can be addressed, but never by going AWOL or by running home to umama.

Haaai, honestly i don't think the northern african countries are good places for our players... i have a feeling that there's a bit of racial and religious conflicts in that part of the world and if you not part of the majority then you'll always be overlooked and ill treated. i mean Paka has never been that type of person as far as i know.
