Percy Tau has quickly established himself as a favourite for Club Brugge in Belgium on his loan spell, but he was missing from action in the win over Zulte Waragem last night. Here’s why…
The 25-year-old has three goals and five assists in all competitions for the Belgian giants since joining them on loan from Brighton & Hove Albion, but hasn’t scored in over a month after battling with a bit of an injury niggle.
While he’s now recovered from injury and was able to play his part against the likes of Paris Saint-Germain and Standard Liege, it does appear that he’s now battling with some fatigue due to the heavy schedule that his club find themselves in amid their UEFA Champions League efforts.
Tau’s head coach, Philippe Clement, has explained the decision to leave the former Mamelodi Sundowns star on the bench against Waragem on Wednesday night for their 2-0 victory, saying that it’s the ‘logical’ thing to do.
Speaking to Play Sports before the game, Clement said, “He is not in the selection today because he is less fresh. We hope to get it fresh again by the weekend, but those are logical things… It is a boy who played one match per week in second division last year and has now completed many matches shortly after each other.”
Now, after resting on Wednesday, Bafana Bafana's star performer will be eager to force his way back into the starting XI for Saturday’s game against KV Kortrijk as Brugge look to make sure they stay on top of the league table come the end of the weekend.
