Bafana Bafana’s ‘Lion of Judah’ headed to Turkey this week for Club Brugge's penultimate UEFA Champions League group game, and Percy Tau’s UCL dream could end tonight…
Tau played a major role in helping his side qualify for the group stages of this year’s tournament as they made it all the way through the qualifiers, and announced himself in the tournament when he grabbed an assist for Brugge in the 2-2 draw against Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Now though, as the 25-year-old hunts for his first-ever UCL goal, Brugge’s participation in this year’s tournament hangs by a thread going into this evening’s game against Galatasaray, with anything but a win seeing them knocked out with a game still to play.
With Paris Saint-Germain having already booked their place in the knockouts, Real Madrid know that they effectively just need one more point from their final two games (because of their superior goal difference) to see them through.
Brugge’s most realistic goal at this point is to make sure they don’t drop into fourth place – currently occupied by Galatasaray – as they seek to make sure that even if they’re knocked out of the UCL, they can secure a place in the knockout stages of the UEFA Europa League.
Tau was left on the bench for the whole game as the Belgians were beaten 1-0 by PSG earlier this month, but he’ll be hoping to get his third 90 minutes of the tournament this evening in Istanbul.
The game kicks off at 19h55, and will be live on SuperSport 3.
