The future of Percy Tau’s continental campaign with Club Brugge hangs in the balance tomorrow, but the Belgians are looking set to reach the UEFA Europa League knockout stages.
Tau got his first UEFA Champions League assist the last time that his side played Real Madrid away at the Santiago Bernabeu in their 2-2 draw earlier in the year, and now they face a Los Blancos side that has already secured their place in the UCL knockouts and have nothing but pride to play for after Paris Saint-Germain already finished top.
With that in mind, Philippe Clement will be quietly confident of getting a result this evening at home at Jan Breydel Stadium, but they will be keeping a very close eye on what’s happening in Paris as PSG host Galatasaray.
If Gala lose to Neymar and Co. then Brugge will progress into the knockouts of the UEL regardless, however if the Turkish giants get a draw and the Belgians are beaten by Madrid, then it will come down to goal difference as they will both be on three points (Brugge have -6 and Galatasaray have -8).
With PSG also likely to play a weakened side having already won the group, the only sure-fire way for Tau’s side to secure their UEL future is to get a win over Zinedine Zidane’s side tomorrow night, with a draw or defeat seeing them rely on the other game for progression.
