Percy Tau returned to action for Anderlecht on Sunday afternoon, as they suffered a 2-1 loss to Beerschot VA in the Belgian Pro League.
With Tau continuing in attack, Anderlecht started without first-choice goalkeeper Hendrik Van Crombrugge for the first time this season as Timon Wellenreuther earned a maiden start this season.
The intentions from the hosts were clear right from the get go with Ismaila Coulibaly leaving Wellenreuther in a spot of bother from a teasing attempt.
Anderlecht began seeing more openings in advancing areas shortly after the midway stage as Lukas Nmecha closed-in from a promising area from good work involving Tau.
Coulibaly granted the hosts a deserved lead on the half-hour mark from nice build-up play through the middle of the park with Tarik Tissoudali the chief orchestrator.
Anderlecht manager Vincent Kompany looked to the bench in an attempt to turn the tie around and introduced Michel Vlap, who came on for Yari Verschaeren.
However, Beerschot increased their advantage five minutes from the break after Raphael Holzhauser pounced on a rebound to blast home after having had his penalty following a foul in the area saved.
Tau attempted to bring the visiting side to live midway through the second half with a penetrative shot from a promising area, but Mike Vanhamel made a fabulous save.
Anderlecht’s relentless pressure were rewarded late on when Nmecha capitalised on poor defending to slot home, but it was too little too late.
