Percy Tau was amongst the notable absentees in coach Pitso Mosimane’s Al Ahly squad that is set to open their CAF Champions League campaign against Niger’s Union Sportive de la Gendarmerie Nationale.
There was hope that Tau would finally make his bow for the Red Eagles, following his blockbuster move from Brighton and Hove Albion, although it was not to be.
Despite the Lion of Judah returning to full fitness after a short injury layoff, Mosimane elected not to include the 27-year-old in his CAF Champions League opener.
Tau won’t be the only big-name absentee for the Red Eagles, though.
The likes of fellow new signing Luis Miquissone also misses out on the trip to Niger, having only rejoined full training with the rest of his teammates on Thursday. In addition, 'Jingles' will be missing several key personnel like Mohamed Magdy Afsha, Mohamed El-Shennawy, Hussien El-Shahat, and Salah Mohsen.
Mosimane will be aiming to get off to a good start on Saturday as he looks to defend the CAF Champions League title for a third consecutive season after his contractual issues with the Egyptian giants were resolved this week.
