SA Youngster In Ghana On Bafana Radar?

South African youngster, Mason October has been making head waves in the Ghanaian Premier League, and could attract the attention of Bafana Bafana head coach, Shakes Mashaba.

The 23-year-old quickly became a fan favourite in Ghana since he made the switch from Santos F.C in Cape Town to African juggernauts, Hearts of Oak last year.

In what is one of the toughest leagues in Africa, it would be hard for Bafana Bafana coach Shakes Mashaba to ignore the youngster’s progress following his impressive displays for Hearts.

October now plies his trade in a country known to produce some of the most talented African exports, this because of the sheer physical nature of the Ghanaian Premier League.

Also, the past weekend saw Hearts edge out bitter rivals Kotoko in a 1-0 victory, which saw the South African defender pick up the Man of The Match award in the highly-anticipated derby.

Hearts coach, Herbert Addo mentioned after the game that the technical team has been gradually easing October into the starting XI, assisting him in settling at the club. Addo also mentioned that in the derby, the quickest player on the pitch could not outdo the left-back because of his intelligent reading of the game.

The Siya crew caught up with October following his impressive display on the weekend, who was very much in high spirits after Hearts' crucial victory against Kotoko.

When asked about how he felt after the game, he said, “Thank God we won, so that made everything so much sweeter. It didn’t go the way I played it out in my head the night before on an attacking side, I would have loved to have to got forward more but they are a good side with speedy wingers so defensively I had to do my job and I enjoyed every minute,” he said.

Speaking about winning the man of the match award, he said, “Ha ha, to win the man of the match award in such a big game is great, especially in my first start but I’m trying not to think about that too much.

"I just want to work for my next start and be consistent, but it’s a good feeling for sure. People here see Hearts of Oak vs Kotoko like Kaizer Chiefs vs Pirates.”

“I can say I’m settled now, almost everyone know me. The fans are always making the players feel good, so yes things are going good,” October added.

Hearts is the most decorated club in Ghana and despite shining for the African giants, October previously said that he would not mind coming back to the Premier Soccer League again sometime in the future.
