SA Starlet Speaks After Penning Palace Deal…
Nikola Tavares hopes that this season is the season he makes his English Premier League debut after penning a new contract with Crystal Palace in South London.
The 20-year-old centre back had interest from South Africa and other places around Europe as his previous contract with the Eagles came to an end, however it was confirmed this week that he had signed a new one-year deal with Palace as he looks to break into Roy Hodgson’s first team plans.
Tavares, who made it onto the bench for the last game of last season against Bournemouth, is training with the first team as they prepare for the 2019/20 EPL season, and he’s looking forward to proving himself at the top level.
Speaking to the club’s official website, the youngster said, “I’m really excited actually. It’s a big year for me, I think I’m getting to that age now where I need to be knocking on the first team manager’s door and trying to prove myself.
“It was a great way to finish off last season, being on the bench against Bournemouth. It was a great way to finish the season, almost like a little reward for me and that’s spurred me on to go again this season and show what I’m about.”
Tavares is eligible to play for South Africa due to being born in South Africa before moving to Europe as a youngster.
