Mothiba Pleads For Lille Return Ahead Of PSG Clash

By Soccer Laduma - Jan 30, 2018 10:28 PM
Bafana Bafana international, Lebo Mothiba, says that he doesn’t understand why Valenciennes will not let him return to his parent club, Lille, in Ligue 1.

The striker, who turned 22 last week, has impressed with Valenciennes in the French second tier over the last year, scoring some vital goals for the side following his loan move from the top-flight.

It was reported by the Siya crew recently that he had agreed a new contract with Lille as they sought to recall him from his loan, although there has been difficulty in the negotiations between the two clubs.

Though Lille have even offered to pay compensation in order to bring the striker back to them this transfer window, and Valenciennes have signed Jordan Tell and Gaétan Robail, it appears his current club owners do not want to play ball.

Speaking in an interview with La Voix du Nord, the young South African expressed his opinion on the matter, saying “I am sad about this situation because I want to go back to LOSC. I knew that my departure would be difficult to negotiate, but I was hoping for a favourable outcome today following the arrival of two forwards at Valenciennes. But no, the club told me that it did not work like that and that they wanted to keep all their attackers.

“The contract that I was offered, and the insistence of the leaders, clearly showed LOSC's desire for me to play. I want to go and play for Lille in Ligue 1. With practically assured maintenance and financial compensation, I do not understand that they will not let me go. I do not want to be the pretext for a problem between the two clubs.”

With that in mind, Mothiba insists that, if things don’t work out, he will continue to work hard for VAFC, but admits that he already has his thoughts on taking on PSG this coming weekend.

He added, “I will never forget everything Valenciennes has done for me. Few people knew me a year ago when I arrived, I insist on telling VA fans that I had a lot of fun with them before, during and after the matches.

“If I have to stay in Valenciennes, I will accept it because it will be the destiny and the decision of God. I will be disappointed and I will get back to work, but I do not consider it. My head is in Lille and the match against PSG on Saturday.”

It now remains to be seen whether Lille will get their man or not.
