Pitso's Future: What’s Next For Jingles?

With Pitso Mosimane and Al Ahly parting ways by mutual consent on Monday, Soccer Laduma takes a look at what the future could hold for the 57-year-old.

Mosimane took on unchartered territory when he became the first Sub-Saharan coach to take over the reins at the Egyptian giants in September 2020.

His stay in arguably one of the hottest seats in African football was largely successful, delivering two CAF Champions League titles, the Egyptian Premier League, the CAF Super Cup as well as the Egyptian Cup in his 20-month stint in Cairo.

With Mosimane leaving an impression in Egypt, what’s next for the serial-winning coach?

A return to the PSL:

Upon his visit to South Africa last week, Mosimane mentioned how he missed home after 20 months spent in Cairo, but would that be enough for him to return to the PSL? Mosimane is known for his ambition, his move to Al Ahly an indication of that. He spent eight successful years at Mamelodi Sundowns, but he enjoys a love-hate relationship with the club. If he does return, his realistic options are Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates, with Arthur Zwane at the helm of Amakhosi, only Pirates remains a viable option for the coach at this point.

Gulf Region:

Prior to Mosimane signing a new contract with Al Ahly earlier this year, there were reports coming out of the UAE that Jingles had been targeted by two clubs in the event that he leaves Al Ahly. Now that the coach has parted ways with the Egyptian giants, could the interest in his services from the country where he once plied his trade as a player be reignited?

Morocco:

Mosimane has established himself as a formidable foe for Moroccan teams in recent years stemming back from his time as coach of Sundowns. Both Wydad Casablanca and Raja Casablanca have found a fierce competitor in Mosimane and the coach’s recent utterances about Morocco being 20 years ahead of South Africa in terms of their football, could entice him to get an up close and personal view of what is happening up North.

Europe:

For any ambitious coach, Europe would ideally be the next step in his progression. However, by his own admission, the chances of moving abroad are slim due to the limited chances awarded to coaches of colour in Europe. Mosimane’s representatives, MT Sports and Marketing will play a big role in where the coach ends up next.

Bafana Bafana:

Will Mosimane have a second bite at the national team cherry? Bafana Bafana was the only job from which Mosimane was fired in his career. He had resigned from all of his previous positions. The coach lamented SAFA’s near sighted leadership as the cause of his exit from the national team. Could a change at the helm of SAFA see Mosimane return for a second stint as Bafana Bafana coach?
