The Mayambelas: Scoring, Achieving More & Being Like Benni
Mihlali Mayambela Scored His First IK Brage Goal
Mihlali Mayambela scored his first goal for IK Brage on Monday night as they picked up a 4-2 victory over Gefle, and Mark Mayambela wants his brother to be 100 times better than him.
Mayambela, who is contracted to Djurgardens in Sweden, joined Brage on loan for the year as they go in search of promotion to the Superettan, and he got off to a great start by scoring on his home debut for the club.
Now, having taken his tally of senior goals to nine, Mihlali is close to topping Mark’s career tally of 11 goals since his Bloemfontein Celtic debut in the 2007/08 season, and the 21-year-old is enjoying his time in Borlänge.
Speaking to the Siya crew, the youngster spoke of his happiness at getting off the mark, saying, “Life’s been good in the team… I’m with good players and (a) great coach who’s very good at his job also, so it’s been good since I came. To score a goal it’s (a) great feeling you know, and especially when the team wins. That means that it counts for the team and me individually, so I’m glad.”
With regards to the weather, Mayambela was playing in icy conditions as he scored yesterday, he said, ”Sweden, it’s crazy! It’s my 3rd season here so I’m used to this, but it was really cold and it can be difficult, but I soldier on.”
Meanwhile, his older brother – who had a good weekend himself as he helped Chippa United to a 3-0 victory over Kaizer Chiefs – believes that Mihlali is progressing at just the right pace.
He told the crew, “I’m extremely proud of him. I would love to see him achieving 100 times what I’ve achieved. He is on the right track in his journey, and I by the end I want him to be rated as far as the likes of Benni McCarthy.
“He is making steady progress and we are trusting in the football process. He’s already on his third season in Sweden and he has a lot of mileage in terms of game-time. It was our plan, of course, when he was sent out on loan to get as much game-time and experience so that he can move to the next level.”
Meanwhile, May Mahlangu was also on the scoresheet over the weekend as he helped Dinamo Bucuresti to a 3-1 victory.
