The Siya crew recently reported that Masandawana were eager to try and bring Mahlambi back to the Absa Premiership this season, even on a permanent deal, although the chances of that now happening appear to have been dashed.
With a long-term injury to Junior Ajayi having ruled him out for around four months, Patrice Carteron has turned to ‘Phaka’ as one of his attacking options for the new season, something that could give the talented Bafana Bafana international the perfect platform to showcase his abilities.
The crew spoke to Glyn Binkin, the player’s agent, who confirmed from Egypt that the African giants saw a place for the youngster going forward, and that he is in Carteron’s plans for the season.
Binkin said, “Having spent the day in Cairo with Phakamani at the club as his situation has evolved over the past 24 hours, he now finds himself back in the Ahly squad and fighting for his place in the team.
“Ahly is the biggest club in Africa and with it comes a team full of quality players. Phakamani realizes that, and understands that he needs to continue to work hard and grab his chance when given the opportunity. The club has a fantastic new coach who believes in the player, and under whose guidance I am sure Phakamani will flourish.”
Ahly face Ismaily on Thursday in their first game of the season, and Mahlambi will be hoping to do enough over the next couple of days to secure his place in the squad for the campaign opener.
