Having been given the captain’s armband by his head coach in their last game, EA Guingamp’s Bafana Bafana international, Lebo Phiri, got his first French goal last night.
The 25-year-old midfielder has been going from strength to strength in Europe over the past few years, and now – in his third season with EAG – he’s finally gotten his first goal in their club colours.
Phiri doesn’t score too often from his position as a defensive midfielder, but his goal on Tuesday evening comes not too long after he found the back of the net for Bafana in their 2021 African Cup of Nations qualifier against Sudan last month.
In what was his 70th appearance for the French side since he made the move from Brondby in Denmark back in 2017, Phiri bagged his first league goal since April 2017 when he found the back of the net for the Danish giants in his final season at the club.
Now, with the midfield man putting in a number of fine performances, his side may well face a fight on their hands to keep hold of him in the upcoming transfer window as several clubs across Europe continue to keep tabs on him.
