The 26-year-old forward had a fallout with his coach at FC Groningen before the end of the season, a fallout that ultimately led to his contract with the club being terminated as he became a free agent.
Veldwijk went on to sign a one-year deal with a one-year option in Rotterdam, and he is hoping to help the club make a return to the Eredivisie next season.
He told the club’s official website, “I have chosen very clearly for Sparta Rotterdam. After discussions with the technical staff it became clear that Sparta's ambition fits very well with my plans. The club wants to be promoted.
“The Eerste Divisie will be a very interesting edition this season with many clubs that want to play at the top, but we like to take on that challenge. Personally, I also enjoy returning to this region and Sparta is an excellent choice.”
Veldwijk took South African citizenship as he looked to try and make a name for himself for Bafana, however has been overlooked in recent squads by Stuart Baxter.
