Confirmed: Erasmus Signs New Contract In Europe

Kermit Erasmus Signed For A Club In Sweden

By Soccer Laduma - Mar 27, 2018 11:53 AM

Kermit Erasmus has landed himself a new club in Europe, killing any hopes that any PSL clubs had of persuading him to return to South Africa.

The 27-year-old has signed a two-year deal with AFC Eskilstuna in the Swedish Superettan, with the move being confirmed by the club on Monday.

Erasmus left French side, Stade Rennais, last month after a mutual termination of his contract at the club, but due to it being outside a transfer window he was left with limited options. The Swedish transfer window is still open, therefore he was able to sign there immediately.

Discussing the move, he told the club's official website, "It was a tough decision to take, but this is a good opportunity for me to play again. I have not played football in a couple of months, so I have a good feeling. I'm just happy to do what I love again.

"I do not like to talk about myself so much, but as I said; I'm a safe player with the ball, and I hope to show my qualities to all of the fans. Hopefully, I can win their love and confidence through my achievements."

Erasmus could make his debut against Brage this weekend as Eskilstuna look to get off to a good start as they plan to bounce straight back into the Allsvenskan following their relegation last season.

Eish, mara why do our players (Mzanzi) do this to themselves. You go to Europe at the age of 27, play for their ABC Motsepe for two years. By the time La Liga, EPL and Bundesliga to name a few spot your talent you are already 29-30. Then what do you think will happen then? Eish, I wish such players uses their brains and think realistically. If you are more than 25 and want to go to Europe to play for the ABC Motsepe or Mvela that side, know that you are wasting your time. How old is Mo Sala, Pogba, Keane, Martial, Jesus, Lukaku to name a few? And they are already at the peak.

Playing in the second tier in Sweden just for the sake of playing in "Europe".....Im sure he gets paid lesser than he would have got in the PSL

What a waste players going to Europe just to be second best, we have our players that are playing in Europe but nobody knows about them and we have our stars in PSL that are well known worldwide the likes of Shabba, Teko, Khune, late Senzo, etc sometimes it's not always right to go overseas and come back home empty handed no collective or individual trophies just you and fancy cars

Surely his confidence had taken a big knock. He is playing at a level lower than the PSL. Maybe the monetary value was a overriding factor in his decision. Another example and proof that being a good domestic player does not translate to being a player good enough for Europe's first tier (La Liga, EPL, Serie A and Bundesliga) and second tier (Ligue 1, Primera Liga, Eredividie, etc) leagues. Percy Tau's star quality is contested until he challenges himself at a higher level.

PSL has proved to be better than those small teams South African players are playing for in Europe.
