Mokotjo: We Let Ourselves Down
Kamohelo Mokotjo says that Brentford let themselves down earlier this week as they threw away a 2-0 lead to draw 2-2 against Queens Park Rangers.
Mokotjo was back in the starting XI for Dean Smith’s side as they took on QPR in a local derby, and looked to be on the verge of victory as they entered into the 93rd minute with a two-goal cushion.
However, a quickfire double by their opponents brought the game level, and the South African had to make do with just the single point rather than three.
Only two players made more accurate passes (36) or key passes (2) than the Bafana Bafana international during the game, and he had an 82% pass accuracy. He also played a major role in the second goal.
He told iFollow Brentford, “We could have easily seen that game out but it’s the choices that we’ve made in the last two minutes that have cost us. The mood wasn’t good in the dressing room after the game and that’s the way it should be after such a result.
“We’re showing a lot of good things. We know that we play different football compared to a lot of other teams in the league and we pride ourselves on that. We’re confident in what we’re doing and the direction in which we’re going.”
Meanwhile, on the topic of him being back in the starting XI, he said, “Whenever I’m called upon to play I make sure I give my best. There’s lots of competition and everyone wants to play but hopefully, I’ll earn the Coach’s trust soon, get a few more games and find my flow. The most important thing is that the team keeps on picking up results.
“I felt as though we let ourselves and the supporters down this evening because of the way we gave away the victory. It’s back to the drawing board but we saw a lot of good things and there’s still a long way to go – we have hope.”
