Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns have been handed a massive boost in their pursuit of former Bidvest Wits winger Kgaogelo Sekgota.
Last week, the Siya crew reported that Kaizer Chiefs have enquired about the availability of former Bidvest Wits speedster Sekgota.
Chiefs, led by Sekgota’s former coach Gavin Hunt, are said to be keen on bringing the 23-year-old on board if they manage to overturn their two-window transfer ban handed down by FIFA.
The crew also reported in edition 1195 that Mamelodi Sundowns have joined the race for his signature, having enquired into the speedy attacker’s availability.
Sundowns have already signed numerous new players, but it appears that they are not quite done assembling a team that will look to defend their domestic treble under the guidance of joint head coaches Rulani Mokwena, Manqoba Mngqithi and Steve Komphela.
Now, both teams have been handed a boost in their pursuit of the Limpopo-born star, after he was left out of Vitoria Setubal’s squad for the 2020/21 season. The Portuguese outfit released a list of their 26-man squad, with Sekgota nowhere to be seen, adding fuel to speculation that he could be on his way out of the club.
The crew understands that the player is keen on a move back to Mzansi and is looking to reside in Johannesburg, where he could be close to his mother, who is gravely ill.
The player still has two years left to run on his contract with Setubal, which expires in 2022, and if he is to make the switch to Mzansi, it would possibly be for a loan move, unless either Chiefs or Downs purchase him outright.
