Bafana Prospect’s R8m Serie A Move Completed

Joel Untersee Has Completed His Move To Empoli

By Soccer Laduma - Jul 03, 2018 12:26 PM
As previously reported by the Siya crew, potential Bafana Bafana defender, Joel Untersee, has completed his move to Serie A side, Empoli.

The 24-year-old, who has been with Juventus since 2010, has spent the last few seasons out on loan with various clubs, most recently with Empoli in a deal that included an option to buy should they win promotion from Serie B.

Now, with the new campaign on the horizon, Empoli have confirmed the arrival of the full back, a player who Stuart Baxter has confirmed has intentions of playing for Bafana Bafana going forward if the opportunity arises.

Untersee has represented Switzerland at all youth levels having been brought up there, however, he is eligible for South Africa due to him being born in Roodepoort before he left the country as a child.

Baxter revealed that the versatile defender is open to playing for Bafana, although at this point in time he is yet to receive his first call-up.

@LAPO_MOLEBATSI even if they can c0me back f0r him that w0n't hurt c0z h0nestly speaking Bafana defence is n0t bad,0ur need is a t0p striker s0me0ne wh0 can sc0re 20 g0als in a seas0n if we can have that kind 0f a f0ward 0ur pr0blems can be s0lved.I d0n't think a defender can bring much 0f a difference in bafana bafana.

I saw the newspapers in Italy and they still refer to him as a Swiss international, so lets wait and see then only refer to him as 1 of our own after he has won the Green and Gold. Furthermore with the possibility that Lichenstein can retire after the World Cup to focus on his new journey at Arsenal then Switzerland might comeback for him..So lets wait for September and see because anything can happen before then.
