‘The General’ On Fight For Places After Big Win

Kamohelo Mokotjo got the assist that got the ball rolling for Brentford in their big win against Swansea City, and he’s opened up for the fight for a starting berth at the club.

The 28-year-old has worked hard to earn back his place in Thomas Frank’s starting XI after missing the first four games of the season, and will have been delighted to play his part in the 3-0 thumping of Swansea this week to make it back-to-back wins for the Bees.

Mokotjo, or ‘The General’ as he’s affectionately known, hasn’t lost a game in which he’s started this season so far, with Brentford winning three of the four matches that he’s started, and he’ll be hoping that that can continue as their campaign continues.

Speaking to Brentford’s official channels after the win in Wales, the Bafana Bafana international said, “I think it’s a good team win… We played some good football in stages, and I think we can also learn a lot from this game. We’re growing in momentum, and it’s looking good, but we shouldn’t be satisfied because we know we still have a lot in us, but as long as we keep going like this then we’ll reach our target.

“The confidence is getting better, we’re getting more used to each other as players. We understand what the coach wants from us, and we’re playing good football. We want to keep it this way, and to keep the togetherness and energy in the team.”

Though he’s started the last two games, five of Mokotjo’s league appearances this season have been from the bench for Brentford, but the midfield man sees the competition as a good thing as they battle it out for a starting berth, adding, “It’s a positive, it pushes us to work harder to keep our position in the team. But at the same time we compliment each other well, we’re a group of very nice guys but also very competitive. There’s a good balance.”

Next up for Brentford is a derby game against Queens Park Rangers on Monday night in a game that could see them enter the Championship’s top 10 if things go well.
