Al Ahly President Mahmoud El Khatib recently held a meeting with the players and coaching staff to express his dissatisfaction with the team’s recent performances.
El Khatib’s reason for concern stems from Al Ahly’s dismal Egyptian Premier League run that saw them fail to pick up a victory in any of their last four league matches.
According to the club’s official website, ‘Bibo’ revealed he was unhappy with the club’s recent performances and held a meeting with coach Pitso Mosimane and his players.
“Al Ahly's president told the players that the board provides them with everything they need to achieve success and that they have already shown that in the last two seasons with the titles they have achieved. However, he is not happy with the team's performances in the last matches, which come before the most important period of the season.
“El Khatib mentioned to the players that they did not show the determination and spirit in these matches and they have to bounce back and return to the winning ways, adding that the continental success should not affect our performance in the domestic competitions,” the statement read in part.
With the Egyptian giants’ hopes of winning a third consecutive CAF Champions League title still very much alive, Bibo has pledged his support behind the Red Eagles.
Al Ahly take on ES Setif in the tournament’s semi-final this Saturday.
