Hendrick ‘Pule’ Ekstein has spoken about his official start to new life in Azerbaijan, following his club’s first match of the new season.
Ekstein was in the starting line-up for Sabah FK – the Azerbaijani club he joined after leaving Kaizer Chiefs – during their first match of the season yesterday (Monday).
Sabah drew 1-1 with Neftci PFK in their opening match, with the former Chiefs star making his official debut in the starting eleven, and though he didn’t score he provided an assist for his teammate Rashad Eyyubov's goal.
Ekstein has been impressive for his new side and has been scoring goals during the pre-season preparation.
The 28-year-old Bekkersdal-born player took to social media to appreciate his new teammates at the club for their warm welcome.
“In football even if you can have all the talent in the world, it won’t take you anywhere without your teammates,” tweeted Ekstein.
