Haashim Domingo’s confidence seems to be skyrocketing, with the young attacker scoring a brace in Portugal over the weekend following a senior call-up last month.
The 22-year-old now has four goals to his name for Vitoria de Guimaraes B this season, and he says that he’s waiting patiently for his chance to prove himself at the senior level in the Portuguese Primeira Liga.
Domingo is one of the regular performers for Guimaraes in the Segunda Liga this season – he’s played 22 of 28 matches – and his form led to a call-up into the first team last month as he sat on the bench against Maritimo.

Now, having scored his third and fourth goals of the campaign in the 2-0 victory over Gil Vicente, the South African is eager to keep on progressing through the ranks.
Speaking to the Siya crew, the attacker said, “I’m extremely happy to get back (on) the scoresheet and contribute to the team. I think that making it into the senior team most definitely helped me, and it boosted my confidence.
“Now I’m patiently waiting for my opportunity to prove my worth, other than that, I’m just working hard. It’s always been the goal to play in the first team you know, but coaches have their own ideas and I believe that in football it’s all about moments. So I have to be patient because it’s coming.”
And does he think that he’s improved since making the move to Portugal in 2015?
“A coach once told me, and it stayed with me ever since, that as long as you’re playing, you are improving. I definitely think that I have improved my game during my time here.”
Domingo has already represented South Africa at youth level, and the former Ajax Cape Town man will no doubt have his eyes set on a senior national call-up in the future.
