Everton boss, Roberto Martinez, has hailed South African international, Steven Pienaar’s display in the opening fixture against Leicester City.
'Schillo' was the shining star in Everton’s 2-2 draw with the newly-promoted side, and his fine performance left his coach full of praise.
“He is carrying a couple of knocks and that is why he couldn’t finish the 90 minutes on Saturday, but he has got real freshness about this play,” Martinez told the Daily Post.
“His link up play and touch is beautiful to watch and it was a really good performance.
“Everything he did was with a real purpose, everything he did was at his very best level.
“Now we need to make sure we get him back up to a 90 minutes level because a player like Stevie, we need him on the pitch for the full game.”
Mzansi’s star linked-up beautifully with left-back Leighton Baines throughout the game and assisted Everton’s second goal.
His coach believes the 32-year-old, who struggled with injuries last season, brings out the best in Baines and will play ‘a big part’ in the Toffees’ attacking threats this season.
“Of course, yes. You get certain partnerships over the park that shine and click.
“Leighton and Stevie, when they are combining together, makes a real difference and the second goal at Leicester comes from them.
“The way that they break through the opposition is a joy to watch and we need Leighton and Stevie to be fully fit throughout the season because they are a big part of our attacking play.”
