Pitso's Al Ahly Drop Points, Top Spot In Jeopardy

Pitso Mosimane's Al Ahly missed the chance to move three points clear at the top of the Egyptian Premier League table after they were held to a goalless draw by Pyramids on Tuesday evening.

Mosimane made six changes from the side that came from two goals down to beat Arab Contractors 3-2, as he recalled shot-stopper Mohamed El Shenawy, Bard Banoun, Mohamed Hany, Amr El Soulia, Taher Mohamed and Mohamed Sherif.

The match was very tight with in the opening exchanges, with very limited chances, as Al Ahly were forced into an early change, with Ahmed Ramadan coming on for Hany.

The first real threat of the match came three minutes before the break as Pyramids' John Duku Antwi found space inside the box from a through ball by former Red Devils winger Ramadan Sobhi but his shot missed slightly wide and the sides went to break goalless.

However, the sides were getting opportunities in the early stages of the second stanza, as just before the hour-mark Duku Antwi and Sherif for Al Ahly came close with headers on either side in quick succession but could not find the target

Mosimane made a double change in the last 22 minutes searching for the winner, as Walter Bwala came on for Sherif in a straight swap upfront while Kahraba replaced Hussein El Shahat in midfield.

Bwala thought he had netted the winner for Al Ahly in the last 13 minutes after finding the back of the net but the goal was ruled out for a foul in the build-up by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR).

Bwala had another chance to snatch the winner for the Red Devils after finding space on the left side of the box but his shot was saved by goalkeeper Sherif Ekramy before Ali Gabr saw his header in stoppage time saved by El Shenawy, as the points were shared o the day.

Al Ahly remain at the top of the log by one point, with second-placed Zamalek having a game in hand while Pyramids moved up to fourth.
