Kaizer Chiefs legend Doctor Khumalo believes Benni McCarthy joining Manchester United shows the calibre of coaches South Africa has but wonders why it takes outsiders to see it and make of it.
Khumalo says Benni’s recent appointment by Man United as a first-team coach is a sign that there are good local coaches.
Benni, who was fired as an AmaZulu head coach and had a stint at Cape Town City, will be working with Man United strikers to assist them in finding the back of the net as he is an expert in that, having scored plenty of goals at club and international level.
“We are not utilising our people who are capacitated enough to change our game,” said Khumalo in his latest Soccer Laduma column.
“Look at coach Pitso Mosimane, Manqoba Mngqithi, Steve Komphela, Desiree Ellis, Steve Barker, John Maduka, and Eric Tinkler, to name just a few; it blows my mind that we are not taking advantage of having these people in our midst.
“I was blown away when I heard the news that Benni McCarthy had been hired by Manchester United, and he is a typical example of what I’m talking about. Why are we not able to see what our own have, and it takes people from the outside to see it?
