It was a disappointing Sunday for South African players abroad as two spent the day on the bench while the other suffered a heavy defeat.
Kagisho Dikgacoi was the only South African to get on the pitch as Crystal Palace travelled to Brighton & Hove Albion.
It would be a difficult day for his side though as they fell apart on either side of half-time, allowing Jose Ulloa to strike on either side of a goal from David Lopez.
Dikgacoi gave away the free-kick on the stroke of half-time which Lopez curled in off the underside of the crossbar, while the Bafana Bafana man earned a yellow card at the same time.
In Greece, Bongani Khumalo's woes continued after being dropped from the Bafana squad as he watched his side, PAOK, cruise to a 2-0 win over 10-man Panathinaikos.
Thulani Serero was also stuck on the sidelines as Ajax Amsterdam claimed a thrilling 3-2 win away to AZ Alkmaar. Siem De Jong tucked away a double while Daley Blind scored in between. Markus Henriksen and Jozy Altidore had scored for Alkmaar.
