A South African footballer is quietly making a name for himself abroad, while the attention back home has been on his famous brother and a lot of other players in the PSL.
Mzokhona Ngezana – brother of Kaizer Chiefs defender Siyabonga Ngezana – is plying his trade in Côte d'Ivoire at Williamsville Athletic Club, as reported by the Siya crew.
Speaking to the Siya crew, the 27-year-old defender has confirmed how he has contributed to the club since his recent arrival.
“I am pleased with the progress I have made so after starting late to play due to my international clearance that took long to arrive. The team wasn’t doing well and at the bottom of the log when I was recruited to assist in defence,” said Ngezana.
The centre-back is the teammate of former Orlando Pirates midfielder Bennett Chenene, who is reviving his career at the Ivorian club.
“So far I have played in three games and we won two of them. That was the team’s first win in a long time. I don’t think the team had won a game this year before those two wins. In the first game I played we won 1-0 – which was the first clean sheet for the team in a long time. We won the second game with eight (outfield) players as we had two players red carded.
“Our team has since moved from the bottom of the log to second last (13th) position. The team had been beaten 7-2 in one of the matches (against Tanda in February), before I started playing. There is a change in the team’s performances and results and I am happy about that as it is a sign that I am doing the job that I have been brought here for. As the team, we are fighting and there is a chance that we will move away from relegation,” Ngezana added.
