Zungu’s Game Abandoned As Barrier Collapses

Bongani Zungu's Game Had To Be Abandoned Yesterday

A number of fans were injured – some severely – after a safety barrier at Bongani Zungu’s Amiens game against Lille collapsed on Saturday night.

The incident occurred in the 15th minute when Lille took a 1-0 lead, with the barrier giving way as the fans celebrated the opening goal.
The Referee, Thomas Leonard, stopped the game immediately and – as the teams were sent to the dressing rooms – the emergency services stepped in. Over 20 fans were hurt, and a handful of them had to be taken to hospital with severe injuries.
Zungu’s side released a statement afterwards on their official webite saying, "Amiens and its leadership wants to express its solidarity with the injured Lille supports and their family and assure that their health is more important than anything else."
It remains to be seen what action will be taken following the events at Stade de la Licorne.
The 24-year-old will leave France this weekend to report for Bafana Bafana camp in Johannesburg.
