Bongani Zungu could not hide his delight when he was officially unveiled at ‘the most successful team in the world’.
The 28-year-old has enjoyed an interesting journey that started at the University of Pretoria, took him to Mamelodi Sundowns, before getting his first taste of European football at Portuguese side Vitoria Guiamaraes. He continued his rapid rise when he was snapped up by ambitious French side, Amiens.
Now, after he was unveiled as a Rangers player, ‘Ben 10’ shared his delight in joining Steven Gerrard’s team, who currently occupy top spot in the Scottish Premier League.
“It means a lot to me, I’m very happy to be here to play for a team with such great history and the most successful team in the world,” Zungu said in an exclusive interview with Rangers TV.
Zungu admitted that he had heard about the club from his father as a youngster but had no idea of the enormity that the club really possesses.
“Well when I was young in South Africa growing up, my dad use to speak to me and my brother about the club and I had an idea of the club and I knew about Rangers, so of course when I heard that the team was interested in me, I did my research and I realized that it is a very huge club,” Zungu explained.
The lanky midfielder will don the number 15 jersey for Rangers and fans both locally and abroad could possibly see him make his first appearance for the club in a UEFA Europa League clash against Lech Poznan on Thursday.
