Former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder, Bongani Zungu, has been on the rise in Portugal and has offered advice for other PSL players looking to make the dream European move.
Zungu made his league debut for Vitoria Guimaraes SC on January 22 this year and has been influential in his side’s campaign thus far.
The 24-year-old will now get the opportunity to play among other European giants after his side booked their spot in the group stages of the UEFA Europa League next season.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Soccer Laduma, Zungu revealed his experiences and gave some insight into what players can expect if they are looking to move to Europe.
“The weather is a challenge. It rains a lot. It’s cold. It’s Spring now but it’s raining. When it comes to football, training sessions are different from what I was used to in South Africa. Here the intensity is very high and you train the way you play,” Zungu told the Siya crew.
“My advice to a South African player who wants to play in Europe is that you need to be ready. If you are talented, you have to work and make sure you are on the same level as the guys here. Train hard and give your best at training. Here training is crazy, my friend. We train like we are not teammates at times. Everyone wants to play and that is why it was not easy for me to break into the team. I had to be on top of my game,” he added.
