Bongani Zungu may be lying low in France where he is currently in quarantine, but the midfielder has other concerns over matters in Mzansi.
Bafana Bafana’s AFCON qualifier against Sao Tome e Principe may have been called off but Bongani Zungu is still hurt about missing out on a call-up to the squad.
Bafana were set to take on Sao Tome e Principe in back-to-back fixtures this month as they look to get closer to another AFCON campaign, which will take place in Cameroon next year.
Molefi Ntseki surprised fans across the nation when it was revealed that Bongani Zungu, who starred for Bafana at the AFCON in Egypt had been omitted from the squad.
The Amiens midfielder who is currently in quarantine in France, revealed his heartbreak in a live Instagram video on Tuesday evening. When asked how he felt about not being called up, Zungu cut a blunt figure.
“This thing hurts me. My agent and my family advised me not to speak about Bafana on social media, but what I have to say is that it hurts not being selected. I went to the AFCON with a knee injury that was painful and I gave my all because I love the national team. Then today they don’t call me up. It breaks my heart.
The 27-year-old further revealed that he did not have any communication with Ntseki regarding his absence from the national team.
“The coach did not speak to me about why he chose not to call me up. There are some people that I haven’t forgiven and I’m not sure if I will ever forgive them,” he added.
Do you think Molefi Ntseki was right to omit Zungu from the Bafana squad?
