The 24-year-old made his way onto several wanted lists over the course of the transfer window following his fine start to 2017 with Vitoria de Guimaraes, with the likes of Benfica, Porto, Tottenham Hotspur and Sheffield Wednesday all having shown an interest in him.
However, it appears that they will all be disappointed for the time being, with the Siya crew having been informed that Zungu is likely to put pen to paper on a new deal with Guimaraes in the coming days after the club worked hard to try and keep their star midfielder on board.
The former Mamelodi Sundowns man played the full 90 minutes as his side were beaten to the Super Taca title yesterday by Benfica, although he is believed to be happy at the club – where he has become a fan favourite – and is eager to try and help them progress in the UEFA Europa League.
It is thought that his side have tabled a tempting one-year contract extension until the end of the 2018/19 season, a contract extension that – at this point – he is expected to sign.
Guimaraes’ league campaign gets underway against Chaves on Thursday, and by that time Zungu may have already committed his future to the club that gave him his break in European football.
