Amiens Announce Talks For Bafana Star
French club, Amiens SC, have confirmed that they are currently in negotiations with the club's Bafana Bafana midfielder regarding a deal.
Bongani Zungu has impressed during his year with Amiens since joining from Vitoria de Guimaraes in 2017, playing a key role in helping them avoid relegation last season and is one of the first names on the teamsheet when fit.
Now though, the 25-year-old faces several months on the sidelines with an ACL injury, meaning that it could be 2019 before he plays again as he looks to make a full recovery after sustaining the problem in the 0-0 draw with Saint-Etienne. He has been withdrawn from the current South African national team squad.
The Siya crew reported recently that the Bafana international was in talks over a new deal with Amiens after they decided not to sell him in the recent transfer window, and those talks have now been confirmed by the club themselves.
They said on their official website, “The club wishes to express its confidence to Bongani, and is currently negotiating an extension of (the) contract with him.”
Zungu will see a specialist in Paris to gauge the full extent of his injury and hear whether or not he needs surgery, after that there will be a more accurate answer as to how long he will be sidelined for.
