The 23-year-old fractured his shin while playing for Mamelodi Sundowns back in January, an injury that forced him to miss the remainder of his club’s title-winning campaign, however, it didn't affect his move to Europe as he looked to further his career.
Now, having joined Guimaraes at the start of the 2016/17 season, he is waiting for the chance to show some Portuguese fans what he is capable of.
After undergoing an extensive rehabilitation programme, Zungu finally got back on the field on Wednesday morning – seven months and one day after his injury – during a friendly game for his side where he played 45 minutes.
The Bafana Bafana midfielder is now not too far away from making his European debut, and it is thought that he will be back to full fitness by the time the Portuguese Primeira Liga returns after the current international break.
