Cape Town City head coach, Benni McCarthy, has lashed out at Bongani Zungu for the comments made by the player in reference to his view of Rulani Mokwena’s contribution as a technical team member at Orlando Pirates.
The Buccaneers are in impressive form at the moment, with Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic’s side having moved up the PSL log with their Absa Premiership win over Polokwane City on Tuesday evening.
Zungu, who is currently recovering from a knee injury that has temporarily halted him from making further progress at French club Amiens SC, caused a stir on Twitter with his comments made about Mokwena while also comparing his work at Bucs and what happened at Sundowns.
According to the former Sundowns midfielder, Mokwena ‘has made Pirates a top team again’ while there wasn’t a mention about Sredojevic's role in the team in his Twitter conversation.
When one of his followers tried to convince the midfielder to acknowledge Sredojevic’s role as the head coach, Zungu went on to imply that even at Sundowns, Mokwena was the one who did the job. Zungu then tagged former Downs’ teammate Keagan Dolly in the comment.
“Trust me it's him. Even at Sundowns, ask @dolly_keagan07 he'll tell u,” tweeted Zungu.
Zungu’s Twitter comments came out shortly before the final whistle of Bucs’ 2-1 win over Rise and Shine last night.
McCarthy has lashed out on the player for being ‘disrespectful to coach Pitso’ and for ‘pushing assistant coach Rulani to be the brains behind Pirates' success.’
“Wow, (I) didn’t expect (you) to have (such a) little class my man, disrespectful to coach Pitso for building your career so that you can succeed in Europe. Now you (are) pushing assistant coach Rulani to be the brains behind Pirates' success, wow. Friends or not, (show) some respect son,” tweeted McCarthy on his official Twitter account.
