Talented Bafana Starlet On Verge Of Overseas Cup Final

Bafana's Gift Links Could Secure A Cup Final Spot Tonight

By Soccer Laduma - May 08, 2018 03:19 PM

Gift Links may have just gotten a call-up to Bafana Bafana, but May could get even better for the talented teenager if all goes well tonight.

The 19-year-old has impressed during his time with Alassiouty in the Egyptian Premier League since his move from Platinum Stars earlier this year and has actually played more minutes than his compatriot, Phakamani Mahlambi, in his debut season at Al Ahly.

Alassiouty sprung a shock in the quarter-finals when they beat Ahly 1-0 late last month, and this evening look to reach the Egypt Cup final for the first time in their history.

It remains to be seen whether Links, who also already started attracting interest elsewhere overseas, will be given a starting berth against Smouha tonight, but he will no doubt be eager to play his role in the tie if given the chance.

Meanwhile, 20-year-old Katlego Mohamme has also earned himself some plaudits overseas, being named in the Team of the Season in Portugal’s Serie C after an impressive first season in Europe with Sertanense.

Mohamme is on loan with the Portuguese club from SuperSport United, although there has been no talk of where he will be playing his football next season.

Its great to see local youngsters taking their chances in professional football outside their comfort zones in SA. Good luck boys, keep pushing.
