The 25-year-old was dealt a cruel blow earlier this month as Amiens went up against Saint-Etienne in Ligue 1, with a knee ligament injury ruling him out for the remainder of the year as he was stretchered off in the 0-0 draw.
It was reported by the Siya crew that Zungu would certainly miss Bafana Bafana's upcoming African Cup of Nations qualifiers with Seychelles and Nigeria, and it appears that he will only make a return early in 2019 as he looks to try and get himself back on the field as soon as possible.
The crew has been informed that the former Mamelodi Sundowns man went under the knife yesterday - one week after his international teammate, Keagan Dolly - and will now be on crutches for a while before he is able to begin physiotherapy.
It is thought that Zungu is facing at least four months out as he recuperates, and will be back around January/February at the earliest, news that will come as a blow to both his club and country.
