Bafana Bafana midfielder Lebogang Phiri is expected in Turkey where he is set to finalize a move at some point on Thursday, although there is a tough choice awaiting the midfielder.
Phiri has been clubless since parting ways with French Ligue 2 side EA a Guimgamp, where his contract expired on June 30, with the player opting to leave to explore other options.
The 26-year-old spent four years with the French outfit.
As is now public knowledge, the next chapter for the talented midfielder lies in the Turkish Super Lïg where he is expected to start negotiations with Caykur Rizespor, the side who showed more serious interest in his services.
However, Rizespor is not the only club interest in the former Brondby IF man. Reports coming out of Turkey suggest that big hitters Trabzonspor are lying in wait, ready to pounce if talks break down between Phiri and Rizespor.
A possible spanner in the works with a potential deal is that Trabzonspor offered Phiri the opportunity to play in the UEFA Champions League next season, given the fact that they finished in fourth place on the log standings last season.
Rizespor on the other hand finished 13th out of 21 teams, which is fairly comfortable – but is far from the glittering lights of the Champions League.
The final choice now lies with the pint-sized midfielder, who is expected to finalize his move to either side in the coming days.
