Two of South Africa’s brightest stars abroad are set to go head-to-head in the Dutch Eredivisie this weekend.
Thulani Serero and Kamohelo Mokotjo, who were both rejected for Shakes Mashaba’s Bafana Bafana squad recently, will try to find a way out of their club’s mini-crisis's.
Serero’s Ajax have only won one out of their last four games and lost important ground in the league table, dropping four points behind leaders PSV.
‘Cream’ missed his side’s last three games – out of which they lost two – due to injury but has been named among the 18-man match day squad for Sunday’s encounter.
The 24-year-old could jump immediately back into the starting XI to help end Ajax’s dismal run.
Mokotjo, meanwhile, has been a regular starter for his side, but couldn’t prevent Twente’s latest two defeats.
His side are still fighting to qualify for European competition but have dropped to sixth place in the table.
Based on Whoscored ratings, Serero is slightly ahead of Mokotjo with an average rating of 7.13 compared to the latter’s 7.08.
However, Mokotjo has collected more assists (6), while Serero is yet to set up a goal for his teammates.
Both players will be key in their side’s build-up play as they both rank among the top ten passers in Holland – Mokotjo sits seventh with a 89.4 percent pass accuracy, while Serero follows in ninth position with 88.7 percent.
