Reports coming out of Belgium suggest that a staggering R84 million offer has been tabled for Brighton & Hove Albion attacker, Percy Tau.
The Siya crew reported back in June that Antwerp, who finished in second place in the Belgian Pro League last season were keen on luring Tau back to Belgium, where he has performed brightly in the past.
At the time, Voetbalkrant.com reported that Brighton, Tau’s current team, would consider offers around the €4m (±R67.6m) mark, which is some way off the €6m (±R101.3m) price tag they slapped on the 27-year-old last season.
Now, the latest news coming out of Belgium is that Antwerp have tabled an offer of around €5m (±R84.4m).
Although there has been talk of Tau receiving a fair chance at the Amex Stadium in coach Graham Potter’s side this season, it appears that Brighton are more than happy to cash in on the Lion of Judah, rather than losing him on a free when his contract comes to an end in June next year.
Antwerp on the other hand, are more than happy to splurge the cash on Tau, who they believe is an investment both on and off the pitch.
Not only does Tau bring an attacking impetus for their league and UEFA Champions League charge next season, but he carries a large fan base from South Africa, which from a marketing point of view, could work wonders for the Reds.
According to the report, there is a 50% chance of a deal happening. It now remains to be seen whether Brighton will cash in on Tau, who has made just six appearances for the club, or whether they will give the attacker a chance to show his worth and repay the ±R50m they paid Mamelodi Sundowns to bring him to England three years ago.
