Hot Property: Another Ligue 1 Outfit Comes In For Zungu
Another French Club Joins The Race For Bongani Zungu's Signature
Bongani Zungu’s future has been one of the most talked about stories in South African football of late, but it is set to come to an end in the next 24 hours or so.
Zungu burst onto the scene in Europe earlier this year after a slow start in Portugal in 2016, however, his performances for Vitoria de Guimaraes earned him plaudits from around the country and peaked the interest of clubs all over the continent.
The 24-year-old, who is currently away with Bafana Bafana in Cape Verde, has been linked with moves to France, Spain, Germany and England, with Olympique Lyonnais being revealed as a potential destination earlier this week.
At one stage Lyon was believed to be the favourites to land the defensive midfielder, however, their signing of Pape Cheikh Diop on Tuesday seems to have seen them turn their interests away from Zungu for this window.
Now, according to Siya sources, Amiens SC have now joined the race to try and land the South African international, and could make a play to bring him in before the transfer window closes tomorrow night. It's believed that Guimaraes want around €2.5m (R39m) for him if they sell.
Amiens, who beat Nice 3-0 in their last game, gained promotion to Ligue 1 last season and could potentially see Zungu as a player that will help them retain their spot in the French top-flight next season.
The club also has former Chelsea attacker, Gaël Kakuta, on their books after bringing him in on loan this month.
