Al Ahly: Pitso Deserves Better!

Al Ahly have responded to Mamelodi Sundowns’ apology following the ill-treatment of their coach Pitso Mosimane by a faction of the club’s fans.

For someone who had delivered 13 trophies in eight years, you’d expect Mosimane’s return to the country, and in particular to the Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium, to be a pleasant one but it wasn’t to be for Jingles, after his Al Ahly side managed to triumph over the Brazilians en route to the CAF Champions League semi-final, much to the annoyance of some supporters.

Since then, Sundowns have issued an apology to Al Ahly – and not to Mosimane, something that was slammed by the coach’s management team, who felt the apology was misdirected and should have addressed the coach, rather than his club.

Mosimane’s Al Ahly have since responded to Sundowns’ statement, revealing that they accept the apology due to the good relations between the two clubs, but feel that the reigning CAF Champions League winner deserves better after everything he has done for Sundowns.

“Al Ahly highlighted in the letter the club’s appreciation to the apology of Mamelodi Sundowns’ board for the inappropriate actions before and during the game between Al Ahly and Sundowns on Saturday in the second leg of the CAF Champions League quarter-finals, which reflects the eagerness of Mamelodi Sundowns officials in portraying sportsmanship,” the statement read in part on Al Ahly’s website.

“Al Ahly highlighted in their letter that the club appreciates having Mosimane as the football team’s head coach and that he deserved better reception after what he has done during his time with the South African club, adding that Mosimane enjoys respect from football fans in Egypt and South Africa.”

Al Ahly concluded their letter by saying that the club appreciates the decision of the Mamelodi Sundowns’ board to conduct an investigation into the actions that surrounded the game.
