One of Al Ahly’s high-profile board members has leapt to the defence of the club’s head coach Pitso Mosimane in the wake of unwarranted criticism from a faction of the club’s supporters and legends.
Mosimane boasts the incredible record of achieving a trophy every two months with the Red Eagles after he helped them to their fourth trophy after just eight months in charge, adding the CAF Super Cup to the Egyptian Premier League, CAF Champions League and Egyptian Cup.
It is for this reason that Ahly board member Mohamed Serageldin feels Mosimane doesn’t deserve the criticism flung in his way for the club’s recent results, having taken up one of the hottest seats in African football, despite very little preparation for the role.
“Choosing Mosimane was very successful. He took on the task at a difficult time, and he did not go through a preparation period but took responsibility in October,” he told Egyptian media after the 2-0 win over RS Berkane on Friday.
“His results are more than excellent, and he doesn’t deserve the criticism he’s getting.
“I am happy with the successive march of victories and titles, we hope for more in the future.”
Mosimane, who is well on course to defend all of the titles he managed last season, will now have to juggle a domestic cup and continental schedule, with tricky fixtures against ENPPI and Esperance in the Egyptian Cup and the CAF Champions League respectively.
