Reports coming out of Egypt is that Al Ahly have made a shocking decision on new signing, Percy Tau.
Tau has been included in Bafana Bafana’s latest 34-man preliminary squad, although reports coming out of Egypt suggest that his club, Ahly will refuse to release him.
Tau has been selected by coach Hugo Broos for the upcoming back-to-back FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Ethiopia next month, despite the fact that the 27-year-old is currently nursing a thigh injury, which he picked up in Bafana’s last match against Ghana.
The Siya crew reported that Ahly have revealed that Tau is two weeks away from returning to training, which would be in time for the Bafana match, although the player could put his contract in jeopardy if he does participate in the match.
Reports have indicated that Tau is likely not be allowed to play for the national team as he recovers from injury and could land himself in hot water if FIFA intervene or if he chooses to go against his club’s wishes.
“Al Ahly refused to allow Percy Tau to join South Africa, and in the event that FIFA intervenes and the player joins and participates, there may be a problem in his contract with Al Ahly and it will be difficult for him to continue,” read a tweet from Al Ahly insider.
Tau signed a bumper R32 million contract with the Red Eagles earlier this month, joining from English outfit, Brighton and Hove Albion, although he is yet to feature for coach Pitso Mosimane’s side.
Mosimane and his players were handed hefty fines following their 3-2 penalty loss to Tala’ea El Gaish in the Egyptian Super Cup final on Tuesday.
