The Red Eagles, who are the current CAF Champions League holders, went into the clash knowing that nothing less than victory would suffice after a string of poor results in the tournament.
Mosimane’s men managed to walk out 3-0 victors in Kinshasha thanks to goals from Mohamed Sherif and Mohamed Magdy while Taher Mohamed Taher rounded off the rout.
For their efforts, the Al Ahly board, headed by President Mahmoud ‘Bibo’ El Khatib, decided to grant the players a double win bonus for the victory over Vita.
This was confirmed by the club’s director of football Sayed Abdelhafiz stating that the decision came in recognition of the players' heroic performance in the game.
Moreover, Al Ahly players were given a five-day rest by Mosimane and his technical team and will be back in training on 23 March.
After the match Mosimane praised his players for their contribution to the club’s success, hailing them as an amazing generation of stars.
“I was sure that we will win the game. Al Ahly have many talented players who are capable of overcoming any difficulties. We have an amazing generation of players who won the treble last season and achieved the FIFA Club World Cup bronze medal,” he explained.
Al Ahly are now second in group A with 7 points, three points behind the group leaders, Simba SC, who defeated Al Merrikh SC of Sudan 3-0.
